Reasons to Try Organic Color

This week I found myself thinking about the importance of using organic color versus regular dyes that are on the market for hairdressers. The four main reasons to go organic are as follows:

It’s better for you– When you go organic you are not exposed to harsh chemicals when coloring your hair like you would using regular salon dyes. We absorb everything through our skin; including our scalp. So, It’s very important to avoid chemicals, especially ammonia, which can cause headaches and respiratory distress. So, in order to avoid possible health risks, avoid regular dyes and go organic.

It’s less damaging to the hair– Regular dyes, when depositing color, open the hairs cuticle completely which creates tiny holes in the hair thus creating damage and high porosity. When using organic hair color, the cuticle is only opened enough to effectively get the color pigment into the hair. It is important to remember that the word “natural”, which is often used to describe organic hair color, does not mean less effective. Organic hair color simply opens the cuticle less, which lessens the amount and size of small holes/damage that takes place when you color your hair.

It’s a great choice for people with sensitive scalps– Organic color doesn’t contain PPD which is the main cause of scalp irritation for hair color clients. What’s PPD you ask? I’ll tell you! PPD is defined as Paraphenylediamine. This chemical is found is most permanent hair dyes. According to Dermnetz.org “It may also been found in textile or fur dyes, dark colored cosmetics, temporary tattoos, photographic developer and lithography plates, photocopying and printing inks, black rubber, oils, greases and gasoline.” Yuck! Right? Avoiding dyes with PPD in them can avoid skin irritations caused by this undesirable chemical.

Better end results– Remember how I told you that organic hair color opens the cuticle less than regular dyes? Well, this also helps with color vibrancy. With organic color you will achieve a more vibrant, longer lasting color. This is because; there are less holes for the color pigment to fall out of as you wash your hair at home. This means that your hair color will last longer because of the color molecules inability to fall out of the hair. Not to mention there are lots of conditioning ingredients that leave your hair feeling soft and looking shiny.

That’s all for this week! Stay tuned each week for more tips and tricks to beautification!
